Jahlil Okafor: 'My role is to dominate'
Philadelphia won't have Joel Embiid for a second straight season after news broke over the weekend that last year's third overall pick needs more surgery on his foot.
But all hope is not lost thanks to Jahlil Okafor, this year's third overall pick, who's extremely confident in his ability and is showing what he's made of at Las Vegas Summer League. Here's what he told the Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey:
"It was an obvious question, one that most 76ers fans would like to hear answered: How does Joel Embiid's being sidelined change Jahlil Okafor's role heading into the season? 'It doesn't,' Okafor said. 'My role is to dominate. I'm one of the centerpieces of this team. So my role is the same.'"
Embiid's injury is a crushing blow regardless of how well Okafor does this season. But it's still great to have a potential franchise center replace the guy everyone thought would dominate as a rookie last year.
Things could be a lot worse in Philadelphia.
