Is it too soon to grade the Denver Nuggets' front office moves?
Tim Connelly's barely been on the job for two years, but he's already made enough moves within that span to give an idea as to his managerial acumen. There were bad moves – the JJ Hickson, Nate Robinson and Kenneth Faried signings – but also some pretty good ones, like his draft night trade that landed Jusuf Nurkic and Gary Harris.
So what do all of these moves tell us about Connelly? BSNDenver graded the Nuggets' VP of Basketball Operations, and this was their conclusion:
"...It seems clear the Nuggets are in pretty decent hands. If Connelly continues to make quality moves at the same rate he did last year he’ll have close to a 3.5 GPA (in my eyes at least) for the entirety of his employment as Nuggets GM."
This is high praise for Connelly, especially since it's unclear how much control he has over the personnel moves. A more appropriate grade, perhaps, would be an "incomplete," given how important this summer will be for both Connelly and the franchise as a whole. If he nails the draft and the coaching hire, then that high "GPA" would be deserved. If he tanks either one, though, he may flunk out of the Nuggets altogether.
