How can the Celtics pursue DeAndre Jordan?
The Boston Celtics badly need to find a source of rim protection this summer, whether via a trade, draft pick or free agent signing. The best available option is Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan, who finished third in the Defensive Player of the Year ballot and cracked first-team All-Defensive honors this year.
He's obviously a desirable talent, only 26 years old with more room to improve. But can the Celtics get him? Here's a closer look courtesy of WEEI:
"Regardless, if Stevens really believes Jordan is 'the best rim protector around' -- or even just the best one available this summer -- then it’s safe to assume the Celtics will make a significant run at him during free agency, when he expects to command a max contract that should be a bargain when the salary cap balloons in 2016. The Celtics are in the same predicament as they would be in pursuit of Aldridge or any other max-salaried free agent, as the Clippers can offer one year and roughly $27.6 million more than a C’s deal worth an estimated four years and $79.6 million."
Signing Jordan would be nothing short of a pivotal moment in Celtics history. He'd be their first domino to fall, a star who controls the glass, protects the rim and soars through the air on offense to throw down some of the most surreal dunks the league has ever seen.
It'd be a dream come true.
