Houston rejoice! Harden and Kardashian are reportedly no more

Published Feb. 9, 2016 5:25 p.m. ET

Coming off the most successful year of his NBA career, Houston Rockets guard James Harden is currently stumbling through a (relatively) miserable season. There's no one reason for the slip in Harden's play, and he isn't 100 percent to blame for Houston's disappointing effort on a nightly basis.

But something happened over the summer that many point to as a reasonable explanation for the Rockets' sudden dysfunction: Harden started dating Khloe Kardashian.

But it's time to rejoice Rockets fan! Because Harden and Kardashian are reportedly no more (via Los Angeles Times):

The "Kocktails With Khloe" host and the Houston Rockets star have split, according to several reports out Tuesday. A rep for Kardashian did not immediately respond to The Times' request for comment. Kardashian "dumped him two weeks ago," Us Weekly sources said. The split news comes on the heels of January reports that Harden hit up a strip club with rapper Tyga, who has been dating Kylie Jenner. The sighting was linked to a cryptic tweet from Kardashian warning followers to "Stay away from people who make you feel like you are hard to love."

It's never nice to celebrate the end of a relationship that brought happiness to two celebrities. But Rockets fans who entered this season with their eyes on a championship might view this specific situation as the lone exception.

Since the reported break up, Harden is averaging 29.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, 7.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game. (The Rockets are 3-4 in that time). And on an emotional level, he appears to be doing just fine:

This sample size is both small and ridiculous, but there's (borderline delusional) reason to believe that this breakup signals brighter days just around the corner.

Or not.
