Heat's Mario Chalmers on trade rumors: 'It's part of the business'

He's a seven-year veteran. He's won two rings with the Miami Heat. At this point in his career, Mario Chalmers has been around the block a couple times. He gets how the NBA operates.

So when reports continue to circulate that Miami is looking to trade Chalmers in order to alleviate its luxury tax burden, Chalmers understands. He's not going to overreact. As he told KUSports.com, "It’s part of the business."

"For me, I don’t really think about it," Chalmers added. "I try to control what I can control, and I’m just working on me and my game. I would definitely love to stay in Miami. I think we have a good chance this year to go all the way. It’s just bringing everything together."

If the Heat are unable to find a taker for Chalmers this summer, he might get an opportunity to prove he can still be a valuable piece for Miami. The Heat will likely play a more up-tempo, perimeter-oriented offense next season. That's something Chalmers hasn't really experienced in his NBA career. If he can show a propensity for that style during training camp, he might force Miami to re-think its trade strategy.
