Heat tighten security for road games

The Miami Heat and the NBA have added extra security guards to accompany the team on road trips, South Florida's Sun-Sentinel reported Wednesday.

The Heat have been vilified in some quarters, following LeBron James' decision to abandon his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers and sign with Miami. The move made the Heat instant contenders for the NBA title.

The team opened their season Tuesday night with an 88-80 loss at Boston, where they were accompanied by a four-man security team. That included an advance security presence that arrived in Boston before the team.

According to the report, an NBA official has spoken to the Cavaliers about the Heat's Dec. 2 visit, which will mark James' first game back in Cleveland.

The official told the newspaper he believes there will be extra security in Cleveland beyond what the NBA provides for normal regular season games.
