The Atlanta Hawks have taken Virginia power forward Mike Scott with the 43rd pick in the NBA draft.

New general manager Danny Ferry opened his first draft with Atlanta by selecting Vanderbilt shooting guard John Jenkins with the No. 23 pick in the first round on Thursday night.

The 23-year-old Scott averaged 18 points and 8.3 rebounds as a senior.

At 6-foot-8 and 237 pounds, Scott lacks ideal size for an inside player in the NBA but was a strong rebounder in college. He led the Atlantic Coast Conference with his 56.3-percent shooting while ranking second in scoring and fifth in rebounds.
