Grading the Detroit Pistons 103-92 loss against the Toronto Raptors
The Detroit Pistons came out flat and never got on track against the Toronto Raptors, last season’s Eastern Conference finalist. Check out our grades from the Pistons 103-92 loss right here.
TorontoRaptors103
The Detroit Pistons never quite got it going and their patented second half surge was met with resistance by the Toronto Raptors. Andre Drummond displayed good passing touch and was a positive presence in the post, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope continued his strong play after standing out against the Milwaukee Bucks a game ago.
Ish Smith
PG, Detroit Pistons
C+Ish Smith continues to demonstrate that he’s not going to be a significant weakness on this team while Reggie Jackson recovers. He didn’t put up big numbers, scoring seven points and adding three assists, but he did rack up an impressive four blocks. He made one of his two three-pointers and was just 3-of-9 from the field.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
SG, Detroit Pistons
BKentavious Caldwell-Pope had another strong game. He scored 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting and hit one of his two three-point attempts. He added two steals and an assist in 32 minutes and was -5. After a cold start to the preseason, it’s reassuring to see KCP close strong.
Marcus Morris
SF, Detroit Pistons
CMarcus Morris scored 14 points but struggled from long range, going just 1-for-6 from behind the arc. He was 6-of-14 on the game and grabbed seven rebounds in 29 minutes. He had a poor differential of -16. We’re unsure of how his knee is holding up, but the fact that Stan Van Gundy played him 30 minutes in the last preseason game is a good sign.
Tobias Harris
PF, Detroit Pistons
BTobias Harris had a very effective game, scoring 14 points on just six shots. He went 3-of-6 from the floor and hit all eight of his free throws. He added two assists and four rebounds. He was -12 in 26 minutes.
Andre Drummond
C, Detroit Pistons
B+Andre Drummond had an effective final game of the preseason. He scored 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting and hit two of his five free throws. Drummond added 13 rebounds and had two assists. He has displayed some uncharacteristically nice passing touch in the paint, and had several baskets while operating from the post.
Stanley Johnson
SF, Detroit Pistons
CStanley Johnson had a reasonable game considering it may have been his only healthy appearance of the preseason. He got some decent run, playing 24 minutes. Johnson scored 7 points on 3-of-7 shooting, adding two assists and three rebounds. He was a respectable -1, second best on the team.
Jon Leuer
PF, Detroit Pistons
B-Jon Leuer was effective, scoring 11 points off the bench. He went 5-of-9 from the field and added three rebounds. He let a loose ball that he should have corralled get away from him in the middle of a Piston surge in the third quarter, but overall his effort was sound. He played 23 minutes.
Lorenzo Brown
PG, Detroit Pistons
C+Lorenzo Brown once again didn’t separate himself form Ray McCallum in the race for third point guard and Ish Smith’s backup. Brown scored just four points on 2-of-7 shooting including 0-4 from three-point range. He did manage to get a team-leading six assists and three rebounds in 20 minutes. He was -7 in his time on the floor.
Henry Ellenson
PF/C, Detroit Pistons
CHenry Ellenson wrapped up a pretty decent preseason with a quiet game, scoring just three points on 1-of-3 shooting. His sole make was a three-pointer. He added four rebounds and an assist in 19 minutes, and was +3.Related Story: Should the Pistons try to trade for LaMarcus Aldridge?
Stan Van Gundy
Head Coach, Detroit Pistons
B-The most difficult game to grade a coach on is the final game of the preseason. The camera lingered on Stan Van Gundy after the introductions were done at the Palace of Auburn Hills, and it was obvious nobody wanted to be out of there and done with the preseason more than him. Good news, the preseason is over.
