Frye passes physical, cleared to make debut with Cavaliers

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 9:36 p.m. ET

CLEVELAND (AP) New Cavaliers forward Channing Frye has passed his final medical tests and is expected to make his debut against Detroit.

Frye was obtained last week in a three-team trade from Orlando. He did not accompany the team for its game at Oklahoma City on Sunday as he continued to undergo a battery of tests before being cleared to play.

Cavs coach Tyronn Lue said he did not know the reason for the holdup. Lue says Frye will likely play in Monday night's game against the Pistons. Frye is expected to bolster Cleveland's second unit, providing a floor spacer and outside shooter.

Also, Cavs starting point guard Kyrie Irving is back after sitting out against the Thunder with flu-like symptoms.
