Beno Udrih will make $1.5 million from the Miami Heat, plus what he makes from the Pistons.

Former Miami Heat point guard Beno Udrih has found a new NBA home, having been picked up by the Detroit Pistons, according to The Vertical’s Shams Charania.

The Heat waived Udrih, as well as point guard Briante Weber to make room for preseason standout Rodney McGruder, who beat them out for the 15th and final roster spot.

Udrih, 34, was cut by the Heat last season and gave up guaranteed money to help the team stay under the luxury tax. Miami then signed Udrih this summer to a guaranteed deal of $1.5 million. Udrih will still be paid that from the Heat, in addition to whatever he makes from the Pistons.

Weber is expected to sign with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Heat’s D-League affiliate, if he’s not picked up by an NBA team.

Monday was the NBA deadline to trim roster to 15. Teams can carry up to 20 players during training camp and the preseason. As teams cut players, they also eye the waiver wire for players who could potentially help them this season.

Detroit should be a nice fit for Udrih. Under head coach Stan Van Gundy, the Pistons run a lot of pick-and-rolls in an offense designed around its point guard and dominating center Andre Drummond. Udrih will be a quality veteran presence off the bench for that team.
