Evan Fournier on Magic offense: 'It would be smart for us to run'
Because he hangs his hat on defense and accountability, Orlando Magic head coach Scott Skiles has garnered a reputation as someone who prefers a slowed down pace for his offenses. But Skils has already said this preseason that he wants his team to play with pace -- and it sounds like Evan Fournier is on board.
Fournier, who's still smarting from France's loss to Spain in EuroBasket this offseason and using the defeat as motivation, told the Magic's official team website that the Magic must leverage their "young legs":
Fournier had been sidelined by an ankle injury suffered during EuroBasket, but he returned to practice on Sunday. Now, he'll need to pick up Skiles' system quickly, as the coach expressed his discontent with the team's preseason performance over the weekend by substituting all five players on the floor when they gave what he considered to be lackluster effort.
Running on offense is great in theory. But if there's no energy left on defense, Skiles will have other plans for the young Magic.
"We have to use our young legs," Fournier said. "We have a lot of athletic dudes. So it would be smart for us to run."
[...] "We have the right pieces and now it’s time for us to get more wins," Fournier added. "This city deserves it, the fans deserve it and we deserve it because we know that we work hard. So it’s time to go to work." MORE NEWS: Want stories delivered to you? Sign up for our NBA newsletters.
