Durant: 'I'm just trying to go out there and not get cussed out by Russell Westbrook'
Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant's looming free agency in 2016 is going to dominate the news cycle until Durant makes a public decision.
It's no surprise then that that was one of the first questions Durant was asked at Team USA minicamp media availability on Tuesday in Las Vegas.
Durant, who is not one to draw attention to himself, had the perfect response:
In reality, that answer makes no sense. Durant is avoiding the question and changing the subject to another hot-button issue (Russell Westbrook's polarizing behavior).
It's funny to hear Durant is tiptoeing around Westbrook, but the point of the response was to diffuse and deflect the situation. Which makes sense. Durant has no obligation to answer such a question, and shouldn't feel bad about it. He has nearly a year to decide what he wants to do; how the Thunder fare in 2015-16 — and how he feels about the future of the team — will probably play a significant role in his decision.
In the meantime, expect a lot of the same media maneuvering over the next 11 months from KD.
