Detroit Pistons blow out Philadelphia 76ers 113-96
The Detroit Pistons recorded an important win over the Philadelphia 76ers at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Monday night.
With Joel Embiid not suiting up, the Detroit Pistons were able to dominate an incredibly young and inexperienced Philadelphia 76ers team.
More from PistonPowered
The absence of Embiid was felt most on the boards, with the Pistons emphatically winning the rebound battle 59-41.
Every Piston recorded at least one rebound, except for Michael Gbinije who played just two minutes.
The big win was setup largely during the second and third quarters where the Pistons outscored the 76ers 65-40.
Andre Drummond had a huge night with 16 points and 17 rebounds and had the luxury of playing just 25 minutes thanks to the lopsided score.
Fellow starters Reggie Jackson, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Jon Leuer also benefited, each playing under 30 minutes for the game.
With the result being all but confirmed so far out from the final buzzer, the bench unit was able to get some extended playing time together.
Stanley Johnson, Aron Baynes and Ish Smith were able to have confidence boosting nights, which will hopefully serve them well as the Pistons make their run for a playoff spot.
Reggie Jackson
PG, Detroit Pistons
C+It was an okay night for Reggie Jackson, who was able to sit out most of the final quarter. He had 14 points on a poor shooting night (33.3 percent from the field), but his 6 assists to just 1 turnover is promising and hopefully a sign of things to come for the offence.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
SG, Detroit Pistons
CKentavious Caldwell-Popes recent poor shooting form continued against Philadelphia, managing to shoot just 4 of 11 for his 12 points. He also chipped in 4 rebounds and 3 assists on the night.
Marcus Morris
SF, Detroit Pistons
AMarcus Morris was the only starter to play more than 28 minutes (38), and for good reason. Morris looked solid all night shooting 56.2 percent on his 19 points while also having a great night on the glass with 8 rebounds and his playmaking netted him 3 assists. He ended the night with a game-high +33 in plus/minus.
Jon Leuer
PF, Detroit Pistons
C+Jon Leuer had a relatively low key game, but still made a contribution. He had 12 points (55.6 percent shooting), 5 rebounds, but also found himself in foul trouble as he picked up 5 fouls in just 22 minutes of action.
Andre Drummond
C, Detroit Pistons
AAndre Drummond feasted against the Philadelphia 76ers without Joel Embiid. He had 16 points, pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds, came away with 3 steals and only committed a single turnover and 2 fouls. Thanks to the blowout he was also able to get some rest and play just 25 minutes.
Ish Smith
PG, Detroit Pistons
BIsh Smith received extended playing time and in turn put together a very efficient game. He shot 5 of 10 on his way to 11 points, had 4 assists and no turnovers.
Stanley Johnson
SF, Detroit Pistons
B-Stanley Johnson’s season has been turbulent up to this point, however tonight could be looked back on as a turning point. He played 23 minutes and scored 8 points to go alongside 8 rebounds. While his shooting wasn’t the greatest (33 percent) he looked confident and didn’t look hesitant to attack with the ball.
Tobias Harris
PF, Detroit Pistons
C+Tobias Harris was had a forgettable shooting night and only finished with 9 points, significantly lower than what he has been averaging off the bench. However, his 8 rebounds were incredibly handy for the team.
Aron Baynes
C, Detroit Pistons
B+Aron Baynes had one of his better games of the season against the Philadelphia 76ers. Playing over 20 minutes for only the 7th time this season, Baynes put up 12 points on 5 of 8 shooting, while also pulling down 7 rebounds. He also only committed 2 fouls, something which he has struggled with all season.
Stan Van Gundy
Head Coach, Detroit Pistons
AStan Van Gundy was very proactive with his coaching decisions against the Philadelphia 76ers. He was able to adjust after a disappointing first quarter which saw the Pistons trailing the 76ers by 3 points and as the the score began to balloon he sat his starters, allowing them some crucial rest as the team heads into the most crucial stretch of the regular season. This article originally appeared on
