Counting down Tim Duncan's 21 greatest teammates
It feels like Tim Duncan's had hundreds of teammates throughout his incredible career. So many of them had awesome talent, made All-Star teams and will someday join him in the Hall of Fame.
The San Antonio Express-News decided to comb through every one of them to rank the 21 (in honor of Duncan's iconic jersey number) best. Not to give away who holds down the number one spot, but here's what was said about Kawhi Leonard, who comes in at a surprisingly high spot:
"Leonard’s arrival re-energized the Spurs, vaulting them back into championship contention at a point when most thought their best days were well behind them. That he did so as Duncan’s spiritual twin — professional, hard working, team first — makes one wonder if they have secretly mastered the art of human cloning."
The entire list is great, and should bring back joyful memories for anyone old enough to remember Duncan's rookie season. The Spurs had some truly amazing teams over the past 18 years, with Duncan at the center (no pun intended) of them all.
But the players on this list are reminder that basketball is a team sport; he never did it all by himself.
