Cavs' Irving denies rumors

Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving wants to set the record straight: He is happy in Cleveland and isn’t looking to leave.

In Las Vegas on Monday for a Team USA workout, Irving shot down a recent report by CBS Radio host Brandon Tierney that Irving is unhappy with the Cavaliers.

"I kind of had a sarcastic approach to it from what he said because it was a rumor starter,'' Irving told The Plain Dealer (Cleveland). "I don’t think (Tierney) knows anybody in my camp, and I don’t know who the guy is. That type of stuff I don’t pay any attention to. Right now I’m a Cleveland Cavalier and I’m happy to be here.''

Irving added that he has “no intention” of leaving and told The Plain Dealer that he is excited about the team’s offseason moves. In addition to hiring Mike Brown as coach, Cleveland has signed free agents Andrew Bynum, Earl Clark and Jarrett Jack. The Cavaliers also added Anthony Bennett with the first overall pick in this year’s draft.

"We have a core here already in Cleveland, but right now it’s about coming together and doing things as a team to propel us over the top,'' Irving told The Plain Dealer. "What makes good teams great is that camaraderie and brotherhood. That’s what we have to develop.''

Irving, 21, averaged 22.5 points, 5.9 assists, 1.5 steals and 3.7 rebounds and was a first-time All-Star in his second NBA season in 2012-13. He was named the 2011-12 NBA Rookie of the Year.

During his two seasons in the league, however, the Cavaliers are a combined 45-103 with two last-place finishes in the Central Division.
