Cavs guard Mo Williams undergoing more tests on left knee

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 7:25 p.m. ET

CLEVELAND (AP) Cavaliers backup point guard Mo Williams returned from the team's road trip to undergo further evaluation on his injured left knee.

The team said Friday that Williams, who has been bothered by the knee for months, experienced discomfort and increased soreness following Wednesday's loss at Indiana. He did not accompany the team to Chicago so he could have more medical tests done in Cleveland.

Williams has been ruled out of Saturday's game and the Cavs said they will update his status as the team heads into the final week of the regular season.

Cleveland is closing in on the top playoff seed in the Eastern Conference.

Williams was signed as a free agent last summer by the Cavs to give them depth after star guard Kyrie Irving was injured in the NBA Finals.

The 33-year-old Williams made 14 starts at the beginning of the season while Irving recovered from surgery.
