Carter likely out vs. Heat with sprain

Published Nov. 24, 2010 12:00 a.m. ET

Orlando Magic shooting guard Vince Carter is not expected to play against the Miami Heat on Wednesday night after he sprained his left knee.

Magic coach Stan Van Gundy says Carter is not playing ''unless we get a miracle recovery'' in the few hours before the game. He says J.J. Redick is expected to start in Carter's place.

Carter was injured in the Magic's 106-97 loss at San Antonio on Monday night. In the fourth quarter, Carter made a spin move and layup but his left leg landed awkwardly. He limped off the floor and did not return.

The team says an MRI on Carter's left knee showed no significant damage. He was diagnosed with a sprain.
