Can Jeremy Lamb start next season?

Published Aug. 16, 2015 11:44 a.m. ET

Charlotte Hornets guard Jeremy Lamb is headed into somewhat of a make-or-break season. It's the final year of his rookie-scale contract, and, in the likely event Charlotte does not extend him before the October 31st deadline, he'll become a restricted free agent next summer.

Here's what Hoops Habit's Andrew Kennedy had to write about the possibility Lamb starts for the Hornets in 2015-16:

"If there’s one thing we know about Lamb, it’s that he’s not going to shine with spotty playing time. It’s probably going to take a pretty big investment to reap whatever rewards Lamb can offer, and Charlotte may not be willing to give Lamb that much of an opportunity if it looks at him as a fourth-year NBA veteran that should have his game together by now. It’s hard to bet on Lamb at this point, but it’s also hard to imagine him being worse than he was in OKC the last three years. Will he become a consistent starter right out of the gate? Probably not. But potential is there and the new scenery should be the best thing that’s happened in his career."

Lamb just turned 23 and has tremendous physical gifts to thrive at the two guard spot for a very long time.

If he can ever figure out how to create his own shot and/or consistently knock down spot-up three pointers while not being a liability on the other end, Lamb will find his place in the NBA.

But he only has one more year to do it.
