Brooklyn Nets: Vegas Releases Over/Under For Regular Season Wins
The Brooklyn Nets have been doubted all offseason, and now, even the odds are against them. Vegas gave the Nets the lowest projected win total in the NBA.
More from Nothin' But Nets
It shouldn’t be a surprise that the Brooklyn Nets are being doubted again, this time by the Westgate Superbook in Las Vegas. Vegas oddmakers revealed their over/under win totals for the 2016-17 NBA season, and Brooklyn received the lowest projection, with just 20.5 wins.
The Nets only won 21 games last season and during the offseason, they dealt away one of their best players, Thaddeus Young. As a result, it does not appear that Vegas oddmakers expect the Nets to improve that much, but Brooklyn did have a positive offseason overall. The Nets’ biggest signing, Jeremy Lin, along with veterans Luis Scola, Trevor Booker, and Randy Foye provide the experience the Nets need to guide their youthful team.
Despite the understandably low expectations for the Nets, it might be a bit of a shock that oddsmakers gave the Philadelphia 76ers a higher win total. The Sixers received a projected 27.5 wins, which is 7.5 wins higher than their mark last year.
As reported by NetsDaily, Sean Marks didn’t appear to be fazed by the odds against his team.
“I don’t think we look at is as bulletin board material,” Marks said. “I mean, you’ve read probably a couple of pieces that some of our guys have said that they don’t agree with those odds and that’s great. That’s exactly what we want … that’s the competitor in them.”
The Nets won’t be competing for a championship this season, but hopefully they’ll show enough improvement to defy the odds. Opening night is just one month away on October 26, when the Nets face off against the Boston Celtics at TD Garden.
