Brooklyn Nets: Greivis Vasquez's Status Appears Promising
Brooklyn Nets point guard Greivis Vasquez spent most of the offseason recovering from a right ankle injury. Luckily for the Nets, his recovery seems to be going well.

The Brooklyn Nets took a risk when signing Greivis Vasquez in July. Vasquez participated in only 23 games last season with the Milwaukee Bucks and last played in mid-December.
To devote more time to rehabilitating, the 29-year-old point guard opted out of representing his home country Venezuela in the Rio Olympics. Vasquez previously played on the Venezuelan national basketball team in the 2007 FIBA America Championships. Despite missing out on an opportunity this summer, his time recuperating seems to be paying off. The Venezuelan has been looking good as of late.
The Nets began training camp on September 27. Brian Lewis of the New York Post had the scoop on Vasquez’s condition just three days into training camp.

Additionally, Vasquez appeared to have no problems moving around at open practice on Saturday. He even appeared to be in high spirits. It was heartening to see him laughing while out and about on the court.

Head coach Kenny Atkinson recently stated that the Nets’ goal is to have Vasquez ready when the season starts. Vasquez is also confident that he’ll be prepared for the regular season opener on October 26, when the Nets face the Boston Celtics at TD Garden. It is this confidence that will hopefully ignite a flame in him this season.
Vasquez is only entering his seventh year in the NBA, but the Nets are his sixth team. He’ll be looking to make Brooklyn his new home. As a result, he has a lot to prove in his comeback. If all goes well, he will be able to do just that, and the first step is making a full recovery.
