Boston Celtics Finalize Camp Roster With Two Guards

The Boston Celtics finalized their training camp roster with the signings of two guards

Despite having a roster full of young, high-potential, talented guards, the Boston Celtics added two more to their training camp roster. Jalen Jones and Damion Lee will round out the Celtics twenty man roster, as they head into training camp in a couple of weeks.

These signings come just a week after the Celtics released John Holland, and a couple of weeks following the Celtics adding 6-5 guard Marcus Georges-Hunt to the roster. Just like Hunt, Jones and Lee have basically no shot at making the Celtics’ roster this season. It’s a chance for the coaching staff to look at them, with both likely spending next season in Maine.

Both went undrafted in this year’s draft but did play in the Las Vegas Summer League.

Jones transferred to Texas A&M after spending his first two collegiate seasons at SMU. He finished his senior year averaging 15.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game with the Aggies.

In summer league, Jones contributed 3.2 points and two boards per night with the Toronto Raptors. He missed all seven three-point attempts after shooting 32.4 percent from deep at Texas A&M, and also shot a measly 35.3 percent from the field this summer.

After being a standout for four years at Drexel, Damion Lee transferred to Louisville for his fifth collegiate season. The guard quickly adapted to the bigger conference and tougher opponents. He finished the year averaging 15.9 points and 1.5 steals per game, being a go-to option on offense and a hard-nosed defender on the other end.

Lee played with the Miami Heat this summer. He scored10.8 points and grabbed 2.5 rebounds per game in over 20 minutes of action per game. It wasn’t enough to earn a training camp invite with the Heat, though.

Neither own a legitimate shot at making the team this season, however both can help push players in training camp and possibly make a name for themselves in Maine this season. While the contract details have not been announced yet, both likely signed a one-year, minimum deal, only guaranteeing an invite to training camp.

The Celtics know who will be on their roster heading into training camp, but the opening night roster is still up for grabs.
