Blake Griffin, equipment manager are 'like brothers' to DeAndre Jordan

Published Jan. 28, 2016 12:30 p.m. ET

The Clippers have mostly stayed quiet on the Blake Griffin front ever since Griffin and team equipment staffer Matias Testi got into a physical altercation outside a Toronto restaurant this past weekend. It ended in Griffin punching Testi hard enough to break a bone in his right hand, an injury which will sideline him for four-to-six weeks, the Clippers say.

We're getting our first signs of protected comments now, though. This time, it's from DeAndre Jordan, via the Los Angeles Times:

“Those guys are really close friends of mine, like brothers to me,” Jordan said of Griffin and Testi.

______________

“It's a tough situation,” Jordan said. “Two guys that I'm super close with and it's sticky, man. It's tough.”

The details of Griffin's kerfuffle with Testi are still a bit jumbled. We know a disagreement started in a Toronto restaurant. We know something happened to force them outside for a fight. We now know, thanks to the report, that police on the scene didn't file a report after those present for the fight protested against it. The Times also reports that Jordan was interviewed by the league on Wednesday.

What we don't know is how this escalated or what subject matter was involved. Maybe we won't ever. But considering these are two of Jordan's close friends -- and that may be true for other Clippers, as well -- Griffin is going to have some hard conversations in his future inside that locker room.
