Atlanta Hawks: Dennis Schroder Appears To Be Long Term Answer

Dennis Schroder will be the primary point guard in Atlanta for years to come, as he and the Atlanta Hawks agreed on a four-year contract extension.

Earlier this week, Atlanta Hawks point guard Dennis Schroder committed to the organization that drafted him in 2013. Likewise, the organization committed to him.

According to ESPN, Schroder’s extension is worth $70 million over four years, with $62 million of it guaranteed.

According to his Twitter account, Schroder is ecstatic to usher in a new era for Hawks basketball.

When the Atlanta Hawks drafted Schroder from Germany, he was a quick guard that was good on both sides of the court. Additionally, he drew comparisons to that of Rajon Rondo because of his toughness.

It became apparent that he would be a focal point of the organization’s future when the team traded away Jeff Teague in the offseason. For his first three seasons, Schroder was the backup for Teague before sharing the role with him last year.

Schroder became a fan favorite last season in the playoffs and his head coach is has become very fond of him as well.

The Atlanta Hawks are giving the reins of the offense to the point guard who will lead a starting lineup along with Kyle Korver, Kent Bazemore, Paul Millsap and Dwight Howard. The young point guard should have no issue in the assist category this season.

Schroder averaged 11 points, 4.4 assists and shot 42.1 percent from the field for the Hawks last season. The opportunity to prove himself is there, but the question is will he take advantage of it?
