Are the Hornets after this European star?
The Charlotte Hornets are on a seven-game losing streak, and free-falling out of the Eastern Conference's surprisingly competitive playoff picture.
So, needing to spice things up a bit, here's a report that Charlotte may be interested in Vangelis Mantzaris, a sweet-shooting guard from Greece.
The Memphis Grizzlies are interested in Greek guard Vangelis Mantzaris, according to SDNA. Mantzaris confirmed the interest of the NBA franchise after the Euroleague game against Baskonia. “I have heard about that but it is not in my mind at the moment. I am a player of Olympiacos and I am focused on our goals for the season” Mantzaris said. Mantzaris, who is eyed also by the Hornets according to SDNA, has a contract with the Reds through 2017.
Mantzaris is 25 years old and averaging 8.3 points per game for Olympiacos. More importantly, he's shooting 48.9 percent from downtown.
This sounds like the ideal weapon for Charlotte's suddenly stale offense, if they can somehow lure him overseas.
