Anthony Davis hopes Pelicans can 'play into June' this season

There are plenty of folks around the league who expect the Pelicans to make a bit of a leap this season.

Even with a significant amount of games their players missed due to injury last year, New Orleans managed to make the playoffs, and if Anthony Davis continues to improve and the team can remain healthy, there are reasons to be optimistic.

Most people aren't willing to put the Pelicans in the championship conversation just yet, however, but Anthony Davis believes it's possible.

This is what you want your team's best player to say heading into the season, and while it seems like a long shot now, it's not completely out of the realm of possibility to believe that New Orleans could make it to the Finals as soon as this year.

With all of their key players back, Davis believes the Pelicans are capable of making a much deeper playoff push. And Davis, who has increased his weight from 220 to 253 pounds, appears eager to do his part.

''Hopefully, we can go further into the postseason and play into June,'' Davis said during Thursday's unveiling of the team's new Mardi Gras-themed alternative uniforms. ''That's our goal. Every time we break huddle we say June on three. That's our goal. We came up short last year and made the playoffs.''
