2013 No. 1 overall NBA pick Anthony Bennett reportedly is out of work again
Toronto Raptors forward Anthony Bennett, the 2013 No. 1 overall draft pick, will be waived for the second time this season, according to Yahoo! Sports.
Bennett, who was at the top of one of the worst drafts in recent years, was selected by the Cavaliers and traded to the Timberwolves after averaging 4.2 points and 3.0 rebounds in his rookie season. His numbers bounced to 5.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in a career-high 57 games with the Timberwolves, but that didn’t stop Minnesota from releasing him last September.
The Raptors picked up Bennett a few days later but sent him to their D-League affiliate four times this season. He averaged just 1.5 points and 1.2 rebounds in 19 games and now is unemployed again at age 22. Yahoo! Sports reports that the Suns could be among the teams interested in him and that the Raptors will sign veteran forward Jason Thompson to take Bennett’s spot on the roster. Thompson was released by the Warriors last week.
