Wood Bros. near deal to run all-star race
The Wood Brothers are working on a deal that could add races to Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne’s existing part-time schedule.
A proposal has been crafted for Bayne that would include sponsorship for the Talladega race (April 17) and the Sprint All-Star Race on May 21, which Bayne qualifies for after his dramatic Daytona win. The additional sponsorship would allow the team to pick up a race later in the year as one event was exchanged with Talladega following the 21-year-old's success at restrictor plate tracks, bringing their total to 18 races plus the non-points paying all-star event.
“We’re not going to run them all,” team co-owner Len Wood said. “But we could run more.”
Len and his brother, Eddie, said the existing schedule changes daily. As certain factors change, the team reevaluates the program for Bayne. The Wood Brothers are currently 29th in owner points.
Two weeks ago, the team revealed that although they had increased their schedule from the originally planned 16 races, the all-star event was not in their future without necessary sponsorship.
