Watch as Kyle Larson hits inside wall hard in Auto Club 400

Published Mar. 20, 2016 4:34 p.m. ET

The first serious incident of the Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway occurred on Lap 48, when Kyle Larson lost a left-rear tire on his Chip Ganassi-owned Chevrolet.

Once the tire popped, Larson's car turned right and hit the outside wall on the backstretch of the 2-mile track, then bounced back across the track and had a hard high-speed impact, going head-on into the inside wall SAFER barrier.

Fortunately, Larson was able to get out of his destroyed car under his own power and appeared uninjured.

“We were struggling all day,” said Larson. “We were really bad. And just on that backstretch, my left rear tire got cut and spun me to the outside wall and then spun me back into the inside wall. By the time I could hit the brakes it must have ripped the brake line and I had no brakes. They just went to the floorboard.

“I couldn’t slow down and had a hard hit there; head-on,” said Larson. “I’m okay. I’m thankful for Safer barriers and thankful that I’m all right. That was definitely probably the hardest hit I’ve ever had in my career.  I’m glad to be on my feet right here.”
