Trucks: GMS Racing to appeal Talladega penalties

NASCAR came down hard on Camping World Truck Series team GMS Racing after infractions were found during pre-qualifying inspection at Talladega Superspeedway.

The sanctioning body issued a P4 level penalty. Crew chief Shane Huffman has been fined $10,000, suspended for the next three races, and placed on probation for six months. Brandon Jones also lost 25 championship driver points, while Maurice Gallagher Jr. lost 25 owner championship points.

On Thursday, GMS Racing director of competition Mike Beam said the team would appeal the penalty.

"As a stand-alone team in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) we respect NASCAR's efforts to maintain a level playing field for all teams and competitors," Beam said in a statement. "However, we feel that it is in the best interest of our organization, partners and team personnel to appeal NASCAR's decision. GMS Racing will have no further public comment until the process is completed."

Jones finished second to Timothy Peters in Saturday's NCWTS race at Talladega.
