Townley makes 'terrible mistake' in Vegas

Nationwide Series driver John Wes Townley has been cited for underage possession of alcohol.

Townley, who is 20, was cited Thursday.

He says in a statement he made a "terrible mistake" and apologized to NASCAR and his Richard Childress Racing team. He says he feels terrible and has learned a lesson.

Car owner Richard Childress says Townley made an error in judgment that will be handled internally at RCR.

Townley raced in Saturday's event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
