Tommy Baldwin Racing picks up 2016 option on Alex Bowman
It's been a challenging second Sprint Cup Series season for driver Alex Bowman, but the 22-year-old recently received some good news.
Bowman's team owner, Tommy Baldwin, told FOXSports.com on Sunday morning at Sonoma Raceway that Tommy Baldwin Racing has picked up the option on Bowman's contract for 2016.
Bowman joined the organization in 2015 after spending his rookie season at BK Motorsports.
Driving for the independent, low-budget TBR operation this year, the Tucson, Arizona native is 33rd in points after qualifying for 14 of the season's first 15 races.
His best finish with TBR is 16th, which came at Talladega Superspeedway in May.
"Obviously, Alex has done a really good job this year and we had an option to pick him up for next year, so we went ahead and did that with all the other things we have going on," Baldwin told FOXSports.com. "We're really excited. He's a good kid, a good race car driver. We just have to finish putting all the pieces together to really show our potential, and that's what we're working on now."
Asked why TBR decided to bring Bowman back for another season, the veteran team owner and crew chief had nothing but praise for the young driver who recorded his best career finish to date -- 13th -- last July at Daytona with BK Racing.
"He's just fast," Baldwin said. "He gives really good feedback and you can adjust on the car and it'll do something. Whether it goes faster or slower, at least you get the direction, so he's been real good. We just started out to how we started in mid-January from the beating that we took with everything else we had going on. We're just now getting caught back up, so we're excited about the future with TBR, for sure."
