Richert tabbed to lead No. 71 crew
Doug Richert has been named crew chief for the No. 71 Interstate Moving Services Ford Fusion for TRG Motorsports. Richert will take over the reins for this weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Aaron's 499 at Talladega Superspeedway.
Richert, a title-winning crew chief, is best known for serving as the crew chief for Dale Earnhardt's first Cup championship as well as guiding Greg Biffle to 10 Cup victories.
In addition to having experience across the NASCAR Craftsman Truck and Nationwide Series, Richert is a familiar face on the SPEED Channel.
This will be the third different crew chief for TRG this month. Jay Guy started the season with the team but left before Martinsville to join Front Row Motorsports. Paul Chapprood served as interim crew chief at Martinsville and Texas.
"I have watched TRG Motorsports since they started in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2007 through to their entry into the Sprint Cup Series in 2009," Richert said. "The team has made a big commitment by switching to the Ford Fusion, and I will try to help make that as successful as possible. I am looking forward to working with Andy (Lally) and helping him to make that next step in his progression in the series. He is an accomplished road racer and knows what it takes to be successful racing cars."
Team owner Kevin Buckler is glad to have Richert on board at TRG Motorsports.
"Doug is a championship winning crew chief with many years of experience," Buckler said. "He has experience with Ford and has worked within the Roush system so that is a big positive for us with our new Ford Fusion package. Team chemistry is most important with us and I think he will fit nicely with our small aggressive team. We are going to throw him into the deep-end right from the start at Talladega this weekend, though."
