Results: Sprint Cup Series Practice One at Bristol Motor Speedway
JGR's Denny Hamlin jumped to the top of the speed charts early, but was soon replaced by teammate Kyle Busch, who was subsequently bumped from the top spot by last week's winner, JGR's Matt Kenseth, in the closing minutes of the session.
Then, with less than a minute left in practice, Chip Ganassi Racing's Kyle Larson jumped to the top of the leaderboard with a lap of 14.779 seconds at 129.833 miles per hour.
Kenseth ended the session second, followed by Busch in third. Clint Bowyer's No. 15 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota was fourth fastest, followed by JGR's Carl Edwards.
Sam Hornish Jr., Kevin Harvick, Kurt Busch, Brad Keselowski and Hamlin rounded out the top 10.
The weekend's opening session was not without issue for some drivers. Rookie Jeb Burton spun his BK Racing Toyota and made slight contact with the inside wall.
Jimmie Johnson and Aric Almirola made contact with the outside wall, with Almirola's No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford suffering damage to the right rear of the car.
With just under 15 minutes left in the session, Martin Truex Jr. broke a left-front control arm going into Turn 1, causing the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet to make contact with the outside wall in Turn 2. With heavy damage to the right side of the car, the team was forced to bring out the backup car.
Kyle Busch and Joey Logano ran the most laps of the session, 78, with Busch ending practice third and Logano back in 21st.
