Practice 1 results for Chase elimination race at Dover

BY foxsports • September 30, 2016

Early morning rain wasn’t enough to keep the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series off track Friday at Dover International Speedway, where Kyle Larson led the day’s only round of practice ahead of Sunday’s Citizen Soldier 400.

Driving the Chip Ganassi Racing No. 42 Chevrolet, Larson had a best lap of 165.578 miles per hour around the one-mile, high-banked Dover track.

Behind Larson came the Joe Gibbs Racing Toyotas of Carl Edwards at 165.122 mph and Matt Kenseth at 164.775 mph. Ryan Newman and Jimmie Johnson completed the top five.

It was good news that the rain cleared out, allowing the Cup drivers to get in a full morning of practice more or less on schedule.

They will be back on track later this afternoon for Sprint Cup qualifying, which is set for 3:40 p.m. ET this afternoon.

There are two practices scheduled for Saturday, the first at 10:30 a.m., with Happy Hour set for 1:30 p.m. Rain may be an issue on Saturday, however. But the forecast for the race on Sunday looks good.

The Citizen Soldier 400 is the third and final race of the opening round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. After Sunday’s race concludes, the Chase field will be pared from 16 to 12 drivers.

Check out complete results from Friday's lone practice below.
