NASCAR officials are making repairs at Daytona International Speedway Thursday morning, delaying the scheduled Nationwide Series practice.
Bobby Santos slammed into the retaining wall early in the practice session, causing officials to replace a section of the SAFER (Steel and Foam Energy Reduction) barrier. The on-track action was expected to be delayed about 45 minutes.
Santos was treated and released from the Infield Care Center.
The Nationwide teams are scheduled for a pair of practices
today, their first with the new combination of a tapered spacer and
restrictor plate that NASCAR implemented Wednesday in an effort to
slow the speeds. The faster car in the completed portion of the
open session was Trevor Bayne, who went 198.627 mph.
