NASCAR issues written warning to Jimmie Johnson's No. 48 team
NASCAR announced Tuesday afternoon that it has issued a written warning to Jimmie Johnson's No. 48 team but won't penalize the group after a pit crew member manipulated the side skirt on the six-time champion's car during a pit stop in Saturday night's Sprint All-Star Race.
NASCAR ruled over the winter that starting with the 2015 season, teams could no longer modify the side skirts — an effort to increase downforce and improve speed — without risking a penalty.
According to the Sprint Cup Rule Book, a team that receives two warnings during two consecutive events faces a P1 level penalty that could include one or more of the following sanctions from NASCAR: Deduction of practice time, deduction of qualifying time, last choice in selecting pits, delay in order of inspection and/or other penalties.
