A week after admitting that he was one of two Sprint Cup drivers fined for comments that NASCAR deemed to be critical of the sanctioning body, Denny Hamlin says that the penalty has altered his social-media activity.
While the driver did not reveal the amount of his fine — one that NASCAR did not announce when it was assessed — reports have speculated that it was $50,000. Hamlin said that the comments that got him in trouble were made through his Twitter account.
At Watkins Glen International, the driver said that he is now limiting his social media comments in the future.
“I’d say half of the time that I was on there was discussing NASCAR stuff and what not,” the Joe Gibbs Racing driver said Friday. “They really don’t want me going there so I’m not going to go there. It’s just one of those things. I’m still part of that stuff, but obviously with getting a fine and everything you’ve got to be a little bit more careful.”
