Michael McDowell and the Circle Sport-Leavine Family Racing team will honor car owner Richard Childress with a throwback paint scheme at Darlington Raceway.

McDowell’s car for the Bojangles’ Southern 500 on Sept. 4 will pay tribute to the paint scheme Childress ran during the 1973 season.

Childress will be inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in January 2017. Richard Childress Racing has collected 105 wins in NASCAR’s Premier Series, as well as six championships with Dale Earnhardt.

After beginning his NASCAR driving career in 1969, Childress made 205 starts before hanging up his helmet in 1981.
