McClure stable after Nationwide wreck
NASCAR driver Eric McClure is stable and alert at a Birmingham hospital after an accident Saturday night at Talladega Superspeedway.
Team spokeswoman Emily Brandt said Sunday that McClure remained under observation at UAB Hospital, where he was undergoing tests.
His wife, Miranda, posted on McClure's Facebook page that the family is ''so thankful that he survived. It is nothing short of a miracle that he was not hurt more than he is.''
Miranda McClure says they're hoping he will be released later Sunday. The family didn't disclose further details about his injuries.
McClure was taken to the hospital by helicopter after an accident during Saturday's Nationwide Series race. The multicar accident involving McClure's No. 14 Toyota brought out a 19-minute red flag. Joey Logano won the race.
McClure's No. 14 Toyota darted head-first at high speed into the inside wall of Turn 3. The car's roof had to be cut and peeled back for McClure to be removed.
