Martin Truex Jr. tops Sprint Cup Happy Hour, see full results from Kansas
Martin Truex Jr. was the fastest in Friday afternoons final practice session in advance of Saturday night’s Go Bowling 400 at Kansas Speedway (FS1, 7 p.m. ET).
Truex Jr., driver of the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota, had a fast time of 187.696 miles per hour. The final few minutes of the session consisted of drivers making mock qualifying runs in preparation for Friday evening’s session at 6:30 p.m. ET on FS1.
Joe Gibbs Racing driver Matt Kenseth had the second fastest lap at 187.617 mph, followed then by teammate Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch.
After making a mock qualifying run early in the session, Jimmie Johnson experienced some trouble in final practice when his engine ran backwards.
Johnson's issue was a similar situation to what happened with Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kasey Kahne in practice at Phoenix International Raceway earlier this season.
