Let's hit the road: Get ready for Sunday's race at Sonoma Raceway
The first road course race of the 2015 season is upon us. Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway will put drivers and teams to the test throughout the day, as they navigate the hilly terrain while turning both left and right.
The track has proven to be tricky for some drivers, but fast for others.
Drivers such as Paul Menard, Casey Mears, Aric Almirola and Alex Kennedy all went off track or spun in practice, while Kyle Busch threw up a host of dirt and dust when he spun during Saturday's qualifying session.
Sophomore driver Kyle Larson struggled in his first appearance at Sonoma Raceway in 2014, but the driver of the No. 42 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates Chevrolet set a track record during the first round of Saturday's qualifying session. Larson was unable to back up his time in the second round and will start fourth. Instead, it was road course ace AJ Allmendinger that claimed the pole in the second round of qualifying.
Jeff Gordon leads all drivers with five wins at Sonoma Raceway, and will be making his final Sprint Cup start at his home track.
There have also been 10 different winners in the past 10 Sonoma races. Could an 11th driver add his or her name to that list on Sunday and earn a spot in the 16-driver Chase for the Sprint Cup?
The action is bound to be intense, full of action and drama throughout the day. Here is everything you need to know about Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway:
