Kahne, Vickers need to claw back into title contention

BY foxsports • October 8, 2009

Kasey Kahne and Brian Vickers find themselves deep in a hole with NASCAR's 2009 Chase for the Sprint Cup only three races old, but neither one is ready to throw in the towel with seven races remaining to be run.

Kahne and his Richard Petty Motorsports organization are mired in 11th place in the standings, 190 points behind leader Mark Martin, while Red Bull Racing's Vickers is 12th, 250 points out of the top spot. Each driver has failed to finish one of the opening Chase races because of engine woes, at the same time that Martin and the other contenders at the top of the field have put together three straight strong runs.
