Junior's car to have new look in 2012

Published Sep. 19, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

The No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet will have a different look in 2012 when Dale Earnhardt Jr. jumps in behind the wheel.

Pepsico’s Diet Mountain Dew will fill the real estate currently held on Junior's car by primary sponsor AMP Energy. Diet Mountain Dew is expected to run for 16 races and Amp Energy will grace the No. 88 Chevrolet for four others.

National Guard will return for the remaining races in 2012 for NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver.

Earnhardt, who turns 37 next month, recently signed a five-year contract extension that will kick in after the 2012 season. He qualified for the Chase to the Sprint Cup this season for the first time since 2008 — his first year with HMS.
