Hornaday on standby for Newman at Phoenix

Published Nov. 12, 2010 12:00 a.m. ET

Ron Hornaday is ready to pull some extra duty this weekend, if needed.

Hornaday, a four-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver, will remain at Phoenix International Raceway all weekend. Not only will he drive his Kevin Harvick Inc. No. 33 truck in Friday’s race, but he will be on standby for NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Ryan Newman.

Newman, driver of the No. 39 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet, and his wife, Krissie, are expecting their first child. Newman will have Hornaday on standby in case he needs to leave the track early to be present for the birth of his child.
