Full results from Friday's first Daytona 500 practice

Published Feb. 19, 2016 12:46 p.m. ET

For the second day in a row, Daytona International Speedway opened for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice and for the second day in a row, it was a virtually empty track.

Thursday, just seven cars took part in practice, and on Friday the number was only slightly bigger, with 13 drivers lapping the 2.5-mile track. And the drivers kept plenty of distance from each other, not wanting to risk crashing.

When the session ended, six-time Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson was on top of the board, turning a best lap of 194.083 miles per hour in his No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. Johnson was in a backup car after his primary was wrecked on the last lap of Thursday night’s second Can-Am Duel qualifying race.

Second fast was the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota of Denny Hamlin at 193.861 mph. Chase Elliott, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Kasey Kahne completed the top five.

Friday's second and final practice runs from 2-2:55 p.m. ET on FS1.
