Final practice results, as Kyle Larson fastest at Chicagoland

Kyle Larson’s speed is no fluke, as he showed during Saturday’s final Happy Hour practice prior to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400 at Chicagoland Speedway.

Larson and his Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet were fastest in Saturday morning’s  opening practice at the 1.5-mile Joliet, Ill., track, and in Happy Hour Larson doubled up, topping the speed charts again with a best lap of 183.299 miles per hour.

Second-fastest behind Larson was fellow young gun Chase Elliott, driver of the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet at 182.883 mph.

Defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Kyle Busch was third in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, with teammate Carl Edwards fourth and Busch’s older brother, Kurt, fifth in a Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet.

Sunday’s race is the first of 10 in the season-ending Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

Qualifying was rained out on Friday at Chicagoland, so for the third consecutive year, the starting lineup for this race was set per the NASCAR rule book.

That means the Chase drivers will start in positions 1-16, depending on Chase seeding. That puts No. 1 seed Kyle Busch on pole, flanked by the second seed, Brad Keselowski.
