Final-lap crash overshadows race

Published Mar. 24, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Aggressive driving took over the final laps of Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Auto Club 400.

One lap, Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin were battling for the lead. The next, Logano tagged the side of Hamlin's car. Kyle Busch shot by on the outside as Hamlin and Logano bounced off one another. Hamlin's car shot across the track and into the wall for a hard hit.

He initially climbed from his car, then immediately fell to the ground and was assisted by medical workers. Stay tuned for updates on his condition.

Logano had more to deal with then a crashed car, though. Tony Stewart charged at him, trying to get to Logano as the crews erupted in a fight, then in an expletive-laced television interview offered disdain for the driver's tactics on the final restart.

"I'm going to bust his ass," he concluded after questioning Logano's way of dealing with confrontations.

For his part, Logano evinced no remorse in a postrace interview.
