Driver Joey Coulter assigned new role with GMS Racing truck team
Joey Coulter will remain with GMS Racing for the 2015 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season. He won't be the driver, however.
The Statesville, N.C.-based team announced Thursday that Coulter, who drove the full 22-race schedule in a GMS truck last season, has been named the company's team relationships coordinator, effectively immediately. The organization plans to field at least one truck in 2015, but a driver has not been named.
Coulter, 24, began his Truck Series career in 2011 with Richard Childress Racing where he spent two seasons and earned one win -- in August 2012 at Pocono Raceway.
Coulter spent all of 2013 in a truck fielded by Kyle Busch Motorsports, but was released by the organization after just one season.
Now, a season after collecting 10 top-10 finishes on the way to a seventh-place points finish, it's time for an altogether new challenge.
"I am excited to continue my relationship with GMS Racing," Coulter, a native of Miami Springs, Fla., said in a GMS team release. "Unfortunately, due to a lack of sponsorship, I will not be in a truck this season.
"Taking on a new position with GMS allows me to continue my involvement in the racing community and also stay involved as a driver with my family's dirt racing program. So I get the best of both worlds."
