Downforce Racing will be promoter of Baltimore GP
Baltimore city officials have introduced a new promoter for September's IndyCar Series race.
Downforce Racing was picked as promoter of the Sept. 2 race. The group is comprised of an Indianapolis contractor and two former Constellation Energy Group executives.
The city voided its previous contract with Baltimore Racing Development in December as it accumulated an estimated $12 million in debts - including more than $1.5 million owed for city taxes and fees.
IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard was in Baltimore on Thursday with driver Simona de Silvestro and members of both the new promotional group and race sponsors. He said it was important for IndyCar to return to Baltimore following last year's successful inaugural event.
Bernard says the Baltimore race can be one of the most popular on the schedule.
