Erik Darnell will replace J.J. Yeley in the No. 46 Whitney Motorsports Chevrolet this weekend at New Hampshire.

Darnell, 28, drove trucks and cars for Roush Fenway Racing from 2006 to 2010. Darnell won two races in the Camping World Truck Series and posted two top five finishes in the Nationwide Series in 2009. That same season, Darnell competed in seven races for Hall of Fame Racing.

Whitney Motorsports team manager Tony Furr says Darnell will have his seat fitted in the car on Wednesday. Loudon marks the last week the team will compete in Chevrolets with Ernie Elliott engines. Furr plans on fielding Fords starting at Indianapolis with FR9 engines.

“This will be the first time in my career I’ve had the opportunity to work with Doug Yates,” Furr said. “I’m really looking forward to that. Hopefully, once we make the switch we can also start getting our cars from Roush Fenway Racing. But that will be down the road.”

Whitney Motorsports is currently 40th in the point standings. Yeley, 34, competed in 15 of 18 races this season. The team failed to qualify for the Daytona race on July 2.
